Being a kiteboarder who rides lots of different styles I realized that i am missing some fundamental knowledge about board-grab techniques in kiteboarding. Other boardsports are way more into
grabs. Looking deeper into the snowboarding- or skateboardingscene, I can find the perfection of grabbing a board in all different ways, in kiteboarding I need to be pretty lucky to see someone
doing a wrong performed Stalefishgrab aka. Tailfishgrab 😜
To close that gap a little I couldn‘t resist to write my first blog entry about „grabs in kiteboarding“. All the following board grabs are performed in combination with a basic pop. You can add these grabs into all kind of rotations, double rotations and hooked or unhooked freestyle tricks.
The key fact about doing a grab the right way is to grab the board with the right hand in the exact right place. As well it‘s about holding the board as long as possible instead of tabbing the board for just a second.
The name of the grab firstely defines where to grab the board and with which hand. It does not say anything about the way you have to shift or tweak your kiteboard.
Out of that reasons there are always different possibilities how the same grab can look like.
Doing a grab the right way can take days, weeks, months or years, depending on the skill level of the grab you wanna learn. Don’t be frustrated if the grab doesn’t work out right on the first try...
